RWANDA NATIONAL PARKS

Rwanda the land of a thousand hills is blessed with various natural resources and features which are found in different national parks. The national parks are home to various Primates which include the gorillas, chimpanzees and Golden monkeys among others and these can be seen in the volcanoes national park, Nyungwe forest national park. For wildlife visit Akagera national park, wonderful water bodies visit Lake Kivu and the twin lakes. And for bird watching visit all the parks. Various activities can be done in these national parks and these include gorilla tracking, gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, and chimpanzee trekking, wildlife safaris which include game viewing, bird watching , hiking Mount Karisimbi and water activities like boat rides. Tourists who visit Rwanda are welcomed warmly, and this is a country which is considered to be very safe for visitors. The gorilla trekking near the DRC border is very safe, due to the large and continuous Rwandan army presence.

PARC NATIONALE DES VOLCANOES/VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
This is the most fascinating national park in Rwanda. It is a home to some of the only surviving mountain gorillas. The most popular safari activity done in this park is gorilla tracking and trekking, with a total of up to 40 gorilla permits issued daily, eight for each of the five habituated gorilla groups in Pac Nationale Des volcanoes.  But Volcanoes National Park is not just about gorilla tracking safaris and tours, it has other safari activities like golden monkey trekking safaris and tours, Dian Fossey trekking safaris and tours, bird watching tours and safaris, hiking tours and safaris to Bisoke and Karisimbi which are now well organized, from a two-day ascent of Karisimbi to a non-strenuous nature walk to a cluster of crater later, but the most exciting innovation is that tourists can now visit habituated groups of the endemic golden monkeys.

NYUNGWE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
Nyungwe forest is the largest Swathe of montane rain forest remaining in Africa. It is most alluring for its primates. It is a home to about 275 different birds, hundreds of butterflies and orchids, and over 75 different species of mammals including 13 primates
Safari activities in Nyungwe forest include Bird walks for bird watchers and forest walks which are excellent, lasting from one to six or seven hours, other safari activities include Primate trekking safaris, Excursions to Kamiranzovu Marsh, Lake Kivu and Gisakura tea factory, Scaling Mt Bigugu (2925M), Photography, Chimpanzee tracking safaris starts at 06:00 Hrs. Visitors are advised to book chimpanzee tracking in advance

AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK
Akagera National Park was named after the river that runs along its eastern boundary; The Park is Rwanda's famous Savanna reserve.  The national park is a home to game which includes most of the usual plains species. Impala and topi seem to be dominant, with eland, oribi, Masai giraffe, Defassa waterbuck, reedbuck, bushbuck, sable and roan antelope also present. Burchall's zebra, buffalo, hippo and crocodile are commonly seen whilst game viewing; elephant are more restricted. Various safari activities in the park include game viewing, birding due to the savannah birds and raptors being prevalent and several endemic species such as the red-faced barbet are often seen. Boat trips are available on some lakes and lakes in and around the park include Ihema, Kivumba, Hago, Mihindi and  Rwanyakizinga which will give you the opportunity to get close to the plentiful water birds including numerous African fish eagles, marabou stork, crowned cranes, open-billed stork, cormorants, herons and egrets.
